PASQUA – Buona Pasqua a tutti.

29 03 2012

UN PO DI…….. PASQUA.

Easter (Pasqua in Italian) . On Easter Sunday the bell towers of the Italian cities tinkle with beautiful melodies reminding everyone that the day of joy has come.

Easter also coincides with the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The gardens are “in fiore” and the birds are singing again.

Italian students have a seven day vacation for Easter. School ends on Easter Thursday and resumes the following Thursday.

The roast lamb(Agnello Pasquale) is often the preferred Easter  Sunday meal, followed by “La Colomba Pasquale”, a dove shaped fruit cake. And of course ,chocolate Easter eggs with a “sorpresa ” inside, are very popular.

Italians have a famous saying “Natale con i tuoi, Pasqua con chi vuoi”(Christmas withyour family, Easter with whom you want) and because of that, many choose to spend the festivity away from home, maybe skiing on the mountains or windsurfing at nearby lakes. Parks are by far the most popular destination for Italians, young and old. The good weather is coming and the indoor life is finally over.

Grade 5 and 6 students learnt about La Casa (the house).Students used the games on Languagesonline to learn the names of the rooms in the house and then wrote a few sentences describing their house
e.g.La mia casa `e grande e comoda. My house is big and comfortable.
La mia casa `e brutta e vechia. My house is ugly and old.
Students were asked to make a model (birds eye view ) of a house -they could make it from anything and had to label the rooms. Some students decided to make or place furniture in there houses and some had gardens and pools around there houses they all looked fantastic.
Well done grade 5 and 6.
